What about comfort and healing?
Babies can respond differently to a piercing, so we won’t make assumptions about how your baby will feel. The piercing itself is brief, and we’ll explain what to expect before we begin.
Afterwards, following the aftercare instructions is an important part of looking after a new piercing. We’ll go through them with you and make sure you know how to contact us for support.
As with any piercing, some irritation or infection is possible. We’ll explain the aftercare clearly and remain available for your questions, so you’re not left to work things out on your own.
Age and timing: our recommendation
SPARKLN does not set a fixed minimum age for earlobe piercing. We recommend waiting until your baby has received the vaccinations offered at their first three routine appointments, usually at 8, 12 and 16 weeks. You can see the NHS routine vaccination schedule for babies.
This is SPARKLN’s recommendation about timing. It is not NHS advice about ear piercing, and vaccinations do not remove the usual aftercare responsibilities or potential risks associated with a piercing.
We can also provide appointments for babies under four months. Before proceeding, we’ll talk through the additional considerations with you. A parent or legal guardian must be present and complete an additional consent form at the appointment.
Aftercare support that stays with you
Before the appointment ends, we’ll explain how to care for your baby’s ears and answer your aftercare questions. You’ll also have access to our dedicated SPARKLN WhatsApp support chat, so you can contact us if you need guidance as the piercings heal.
We check in during the first few days after your appointment to see how things are going. Our WhatsApp support continues beyond those initial check-ins, and you can message us with aftercare questions throughout the healing process.
For routine piercing and aftercare questions, our team is here to help. If you think a piercing may be infected, please seek medical advice promptly. The NHS guidance on infected piercings recommends contacting a GP or NHS 111. It also advises leaving the jewellery in unless a doctor tells you to remove it.
